Will Crimsafe Security Screens Make My Home Dark?

The short answer is, no, not really.

This is a question that we get asked a lot here at Davcon Security Screens. And it’s a valid question.

While safety and home protection is imperative to your home and family, and likely to be the key reason you’re looking at Crimsafe security screens, it doesn’t mean that you want to alter what life is like in your home.

Having a security screen system that doesn’t change how you live at home is exactly what you need. And that’s what Crimsafe can provide.

The Secret is Crimsafe’s Tensile Tuff Mesh

Crimsafe Security Screens use their very own 304 grade stainless steel mesh that is designed with a thicker cross section, which allows it to absorb a higher impact than its competitors.

It’s also engineered to remain strong following an impact or attack so that it won’t become brittle or give way in case of a deformity.

How well will I be able to see through Crimsafe’s Tensile Tuff Mesh?

The mesh size is 1.5mm x 1.5mm. This means that Crimsafe isn’t going to impede the view in any substantial way in normal lighting conditions. So if you keep an eye on the kids in the back yard from your kitchen window – with Crimsafe installed you’ll still be able to see them clearly with Crimsafe installed.

Why does Crimsafe’s Tensile Tuff only come in black?

Black absorbs the light, and it’s non-reflective – imagine the sun coming through your front screen and bouncing off the back if it was white or silver!

A black mesh also means that you can see outside easier. Any other colour would create glare and reduce visibility when you look outside.

Does Crimsafe’s Tensile Tuff deflect the sun’s rays?

Crimsafe is very effective at cutting down solar heat and UV rays. Independent studies have shown that Tensile Tuff mesh can reduce solar heat by up to 53%, and reduces UV radiation by 62%.

Will Crimsafe make it darker inside my home?

You’d expect that with a screen that filters out solar heat and UV rays, it would be darker inside your home. But that’s not the case at all. While some light is reduced, it’s mostly just glare.

Think about tinted car windows – it doesn’t make it dark inside your car, but it makes it more comfortable and easier to see out.

The lock of the security door did not work, so I rang Davcon. A few days later, a man came, had a look and he said he would talk to the manufacturer. A few days later another man came and replaced the whole lock free of charge. I didn't have any trouble at all.

I bought 5 crimsafe security doors during July this year 2024 (the tax time), so I got lots of discounts too.
I am happy with their price and their service.

Not to mention before I bought the 5 doors, I did shop around, and Davcon was the cheapest.

For prices and service, I will stick with Davcon, this is the 2nd house that I put crimsafe doors in. I did put crimsafe in the 1st house in 2019, and I was happy with it. This time with the 2nd house, Davcon makes me happy again.

I had my whole townhouse 'Crimsafed' by Davcon. Things went very smoothly. The initial appointment for the quote was within days, the measuring appointment was a few weeks later. Then there was about a 8 week wait for the product to arrive, but communication was great, and I'm very happy with my new security doors, windows and doggy door (my dog loves the doggy door too). Everyone was really friendly and professional. The only thing I didn't anticipate was that the doggy door was quite high off the ground for my medium dog, especially since there is a bit of a drop on the outside, so I had to make a custom step for him (until I get a proper deck installed outside).

We highly recommend Davcon. We have a renovated 100 year old house and were were not sure about the crimsafe look. The Davcon team explained all the options clearly and they were not pushy. The price was competitive in comparison with other companies in Brisbane. This is the most important comment. The installation team were amazing!!!! They paid attention to fine detail, went out and beyond my expectations to install mesh to custom windows and doors. They even made up a trim on a big stacking door which allowed the screen to blend in with the house. They navigated shutters and electric blinds and I would highly recommend them to anyone. Crimsafe is expensive but after a spike of crime in our area, we do feel more safe. In the attached photos, every panel of glass is covered. We have a mix of different types of crimsafe. From the inside looking out - you can't see it. When it is installed on the outside it looks dark on the outside but you can't see it from the inside looking out. We have also benefited from cross breezes throughout the house. Other than the price, the only negative of the Crimsafe is that it can slightly darken a room depending on the available lighting. I hope this helps you decide. The Davcon team are hard to beat. They get the installation right. They are respectful and keep you informed from start to finish. We wouldn't use anyone but Davcon.

I requested a quote online and was advised that Wayne will be visiting for a quote. He was fabulous, gave me various options on what I could do. He advised what colours are available (which is pretty much any colour), showed various product frames and explained the entire process. He also explained the security locks they use. Davcon Security Screens kept you informed of the entire process, the admin staff were wonderful. I dealt mostly with Samantha, she was very helpful with any questions I had. I then had Daniel who installed the products. I was amazed how great the stacker doors looked. I was worried that the Crimsafe mesh was going to leave the house looking dark however this was not the case at all. You can see out no problem, it lets plenty of light in your home. I've had two sliding door screens installed on my patio, and I couldn't have been happier with the results.

My existing windows/doors have a special frame, with each joint slightly sticking out of the main frame, making it difficult to install a secondary sliding frame on top. The team were really accommodative and after some further inspection, suggested a box-frame which would work around the existing frame, offering space for sliding doors.

The measurement was done meticulously, and we did a colour match to my existing frames. Despite my concern of a bulky exterior look, the screens look seamless and as if they were built as part of the initial build. I highly recommend the team at Davcon!
